New Year, Next Level

2026 nurse goals

New Year, Next Level! Every new year I write a mantra to define my year. This year my mantra is to “champion comprehensive education onboarding for Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs), Directors of Nursing (DONs) and aspiring nurse leaders.” Even highly experienced leaders require support, mentorship and education to effectively navigate the challenges of a new position or new organization. Recent nursing turnover data indicates that with the right nursing retention strategies, healthcare leaders can retain their valued nurse leaders.

2026 Nursing Goals

  1. Champion the critical impact of every nurse

  2. Pursue career development and leadership growth

  3. Prioritize one-on-one mentorship and self-care

  4. Focus on getting back to the basics of patient care

  5. Optimize technology and AI tools to get back to the bedside

What challenges lie ahead for nurses in 2026?

Nurses in 2026 face a landscape shaped by persistent staff shortages, technological integration (e.g. AI, telehealth, remote monitoring), evolving patient needs, increased regulatory scrutiny, emphasis on education, and advocacy as well as demanding adaptability for the nursing profession.
